Ben Falconer is Director of Planex Controls, a UK-based project management and project controls consultancy supporting complex engineering and construction delivery. Ben has 15+ years’ experience across regulated sectors, including planning, cost control, reporting cadence and delivery governance on major CAPEX programmes. He writes sourced, fair commentary on delivery performance, focused on incentives, accountability and what good looks like when projects are under strain.
Professional Background
Ben Falconer began his career through a Modern Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering in Scotland, completing the apprenticeship framework and receiving a Modern Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion. He progressed into Project Management and Project Controls and has spent the last 15 years supporting major CAPEX and complex engineering programmes in regulated environments.

Across these Projects, Ben’s project management and controls leadership has translated into measurable delivery outcomes: improved labour productivity on active sites (driving trades performance to at least 85% efficiency on live builds) and reduced operational disruption by coordinating shutdown windows to minimise downtime. His work has consistently reduced “late surprises”, increased project team decision speed, and strengthened delivery predictability across multiple fast-track CAPEX projects.
Ben has delivered controls and performance improvements - bringing structure, visibility, and commercial grip to complex delivery environments. Across multiple projects, he has helped implement end-to-end project management & controls systems where they were previously underdeveloped.
